Today is November 5th, and one of GAATO's members, ISPO (International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics) has launched the first International Prosthetics and Orthotics Day. Its aim is to highlight and raise awareness of the importance of prostheses and orthoses (P&O) for users and the need to provide further resources to ensure equitable and appropriate access to prosthetic and orthotic services.
The International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) was established as a non-governmental Organisation in Copenhagen, Denmark in 1970 and its founding 'Charter 50' stated that,
‘We promise to train, develop, share our professional experiences, and support other multidisciplinary professionals and providers of assistive technology and mobility services at all stages.’
After 52 years ISPO and its members continue to provide highly skilled professional services around the world. ISPO's dedicated practitioners can be found in some of the most challenging and often dangerous environments, delivering their often long-term support in collaboration with a variety of colleagues in multi-disciplinary rehabilitation teams.
